About the design :

This course comes from a challenge to put the maximum holes in one design window. So,
all the course fits in 5 windows (3 of 4 holes, 2 of 3holes). The particular layout of the course
is due to the fact that it is designed on the edges of another course : the Championship Course
(this last one is a more open one with a Pinehurst #2 look. I hope I will work on it some day...)
The course is heavily wooded and though tight, the other holes are not often in view except for
the opens spaces around the lakes. There are essentially short holes and many par 3 that forces
the use of the iron play. This is not a difficult course except for a few holes but the greens
can cause some troubles, depending on the accuracy of the approch shot. The water is not a factor
here and the ball may stay dry...
So, expect some low scores and improve you iron play and shot making !

One mre thing about the holes names : as I had some trouble to find some, I took the
option to use the titles of the songs of one of my favorite singers. Guess who, and you will win
a free green-fee on the Championship Course !

Hole by hole description :

Hole 1 "Long may you run" PAR 3
111 - 104 - 98 -91
The shortest hole of the Short Course ! Begin by a wedge to a tight sloping green. It is not a
birdie hole...

Hole 2 "Expecting to fly" PAR 5
487 - 469- 446 - 435
The first par 5 is short but double dog-legged. To get the green in two, you must hit a sliced
power drive, but the second shot is long and may cause trouble. So, playing the green in 3 is the
best opportunity for birdie.

Hole 3 "Flying on the ground is wrong" PAR 4
334 - 314 - 281 - 267
A short par 4 that may not cause problems. The drive is blind but no scary. The approach is
downhill to another sloping green which blends with the 15th fairway below.

Hole 4 "Sugar moutain" PAR 3
178 - 160 - 146 - 134
A slanting narrow green well protected by front and back bunkers. A mid to long iron needs
accuracy. the back pin positions are tough.

Hole 5 "Old man" PAR 3
174 - 154 - 157 - 144
Another mid-length par 3 that should cause no problem. The tee is shared with the 14th. The
green slopes form back to front.

Hole 6 "El Dorado" PAR 4
279 - 262 - 232 - 224
The easiest hole. The green is reachable with a decent drive though well proteced. The birdie
is the score here !

Hole 7 "Broken arrow" PAR 4
323 - 306 - 272 - 261
A sharp short right dog-leg. You need to place accurately the tee shot to get the openning to
a well enclosed green.

Hole 8 "Running dry" PAR 5
530 - 511 - 463 - 450
The last par 5 tees downhill to a sloppy fairway cut by a little creek. Overdriving the creek is
only possible with a huge power drive. The green is rather simple though you might watch out for
the water behind. A birdie hole.

Hole 9 "Out on the week-end" PAR 3
137 - 122 - 120 -107
A difficult short par 3 over the water to a tricky green protected by two bunkers. A difficult
end for the first nine...

Hole 10 "Too far gone" PAR 3
185 - 168 - 145 - 134
May be this green is really too far... A long iron is needed to reach this trichy green that
slopes to the water. Hard to keep the ball on the putting surface. Can cost some points...

Hole 11 "The old laughing lady" PAR 4
340 - 323 - 282 - 271
A short par 4 that give a sloping uphill approcah to a two tiered perched green. Give the most
attention to the approcah shot and you might get an esay bridie chance.

Hole 12 "After the gold rush" PAR 4
470 - 451 - 413 - 402
Almost a par 5. the tee shot is tight and the second one long to a sloping green that does not
like to keep the ball. The toughest hole of the course. A par is much merit !

Hole 13 "The loner" PAR 4
325 - 307 - 275 - 264
Another short par 4 that requires care from the tee. After, an uphill wedge to the cloverleaf
tiered green should leave an esay birdie.

Hole 14 "Cinnamon girl" PAR 4
434 - 415 - 400 - 389
Shares the tee with #5. Another long and difficult par 4 that requires an accurate tee shot. The
fairway slopes serverely to the right, giving a tough approach to a shallow green. Hard to put.

Hole 15 "Down by the river" PAR 4
370 - 351 - 335 - 324
A strange tee shot. Do not aim for the fairway and use an iron to the right over the trees to get
a decent approach shot. Some pin positions are fun.

Hole 16 "The heart of gold" PAR 3
154 - 135 - 134 - 122
A breather. A mid iron to a flat green should leave you a real birdie chance

Hole 17 "Helpless" PAR 4
411 - 395 - 322 - 311
A strategic hole. Keep the driver in the bag and aim a drawed 3 of 5 wood as far as you can
because the second shot over the water is always very long. The green is well defended and
hard to keep. A scary hole...

Hole 18 "Harvest" PAR 3
159 - 143 - 108 - 98
Ending with a mid-length par 3 over the water to the clubhouse. You should end with a smile...

I hope that you enjoyed this design. Anyway, all you remarks are welcome to help me to improve
for my future works, so please tell me.

Next designs :

* Royal Dornoch : a true links co-design with Chris Clouser. A very hard work for one of the best
courses of the world. The result is interesting...

* Golf des Volcans : home of the Open des Volcans, an European Challenge tour event. A very nice
course in my homeland and a candidate for the 2001 French Open. You will love it !
