This a recreation of my hometown golf course. Beautifully interwoven with naturally
occurring, fresh water ponds and lakes, Braintree Municipal Golf Course offers both
the serious golfer and the part-time hobbyist the finest golfing, an advanced Tee-Time
Reservations system, efficient greens maintenance and above all, a wonderful family
experience comparable to any public golf course in Massachusetts.

Included with this course is an original Braintree Municipal Golf Course Scorecard.

History: JNSE version 1996, JN4 version 1997, JN5 version 1998

Textures:	Paul 'TexGuru' O'Brien

Background:	I have experimented with so many backgrounds I can't remember
where this one originated. The panels have dates of 11/22/97, 5/31/98 and 6/13/98.
Thanks to the designer.

Borrowed Objects:	Golf Cart

Original Custom Objects:	Signposts, Man with pipe, outhouse

Testers:	AceMeister, Gilles, feebee, Doc. B, Vladinator, JBL and
JRMaddog, thanks all for the help.

Difficulty:	This is a fairly easy course to play and I fully expect Voyen Koreis
to set a new world record for a low score for 18 holes.

I have used a minimum of stock sounds which were appropriate for the setting.
The course follows the original fairly closely for distances, fairway widths, trees,
bunkers and water areas. It features generous greens but they are not flat, tree
lined and mostly straight fairways, a few risk/reward situations and eight holes
where water is present on the left, right or both. I have added some flowering
bushes and flowers which are not on the "real" course. Hole 3's green is
represented close to the original and if you place your ball in the wrong spot
you may take 3+ putts to hole it. The water on the left of Hole 6 is the Richardi
Reservoir which supplies Braintree and a neighboring town with drinking water.

I wanted to add a lot of Canadian geese on some holes (real) but decided not to.
They sure are a pain! PSP version 5 and 6 was used for all image manipulations.

========================================================

Introduction:

This is my fourth JNSE course and my first real 18 hole course. It is
a re-creation of the public golf course of Braintree, Massachusetts which
is located about 15 miles south of Boston. The course was created
with the hole layouts and tee to pin distances listed in the scorecard and
with my memories of playing the course.

About the locale:

The town of Braintree, where I live, was incorporated in 1640. It is
surrounded by the city of Quincy(1792), the towns of Randolf(1793),
Holbrook(1872), and Weymouth and is nestled at the foot of the Blue
Hills. Early Braintree consisted of Quincy, Randolf, Holbrook, and
Braintree.

It was the birthplace of John Adams, John Quincy Adams, John Hancock,
and General Sylvanus Thayer who is known as the "Father of West Point".
Born also in Braintree were Thomas A. Watson, who worked with Alexander
Graham Bell, and Benjamin Vinton French, one of the founders of the
U.S. Horticultural Society and the U.S. Agricultural Society.

The course is about 6,569 yards long with par of 72. This course was
originally designed as a nine hole course in 1926 and expanded to an
18 hole course starting in 1968. It was ready for play in 1972. The area
where the course is located was first used to play golf by a group of
golfers called The Braintree Golf Club and records for this pioneering
group date back to 1902. They referred to the area as the "sand pit".

This is a relatively easy course with some hills, elevated tees and greens,
and with most of the ponds located on the back nine holes. Hole six is
situated along the Richardi Reservoir which supplies Braintree's water.

Golf is popular on the "South Shore" (south of Boston) with over 80
mostly public courses available. This southern area has more courses
than the entire state of Rhode Island, more public courses than all the
courses in Delaware, more private courses than in either New Hampshire
or Vermont. It contains more par-3 courses than there are in 25 states
including Georgia and other golfing hotbed states.

Playing Tips?:

This course just begs for at least nine birdies. It is fairly wide open
and there are no "sneaky" obstacles to overcome. The computerized Jack
Nicklaus golper consistantly scores nine birdies, nine pars with only
24 putts even though he often landed in heavy rough on his drives.

Acknowledgements:

I have borrowed many objects from people who have borrowed objects from
others. I am not sure who is responsible for creating them, but I thank
all of these talented artists. Many of the trees were modified as needed.
The landplot is original and the background (modified) was borrowed from
someone but I misplaced the reference. I apologise for this goof and
thank the unknown designer.

Thanks to Lee Ritze, GRIII, Mark Willett and others that I might of
overlooked because of the constant movement of objects from course to
course. Anyway, thank all of you for the use of the objects used on The
Braintree Municipal Golf Course.

This text file is considered part of the course files and should be
included in and with all files that come with the course. This course
can be freely distributed to any BBS that does not charge any kind of
fee for this course. Many of the objects and holes are others works
and they have asked that such original creations not be charged for
in anyway shape or form, and I agree.

Closing:

The Braintree Municipal Golf Course has been a pleasure to create and
I hope you enjoy playing the course. Any and all comments are welcomed
I can be reached at Compuserve ID 110363.3422. I have had valuable advice
on course design & hole construction from Peter Broad, Bubba, Charles
Whiddon, and GRIII and a special thanks to those who examined the course
and suggested the many needed improvements.
